Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will miss the club’s pre-season tour of the United States because of their vaccination status, manager Maurizio Sarri has confirmed.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Sarri said the pair could not travel with the squad as they had not yet been vaccinated against measles.
“Unfortunately, Kante and Loftus-Cheek cannot come with us because they have not yet been vaccinated against measles,” Sarri said.
“We are trying to solve the problem, but for the moment, they cannot come with us.”
Measles is a highly contagious virus that can cause severe respiratory illness and, sometimes, death.
The disease is dangerous for young children and those with compromised immune systems.
Chelsea are scheduled to play matches against the New England Revolution, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain during their tour of the US.
Kante, who was named the PFA Player of the Year in 2017, has been a key player for Chelsea since joining the club from Leicester City in 2016.
Loftus-Cheek, meanwhile, is a product of the club’s academy and has been a regular member of the first-team squad over the past two seasons.
