It is now Monday morning and as of now, we have not received the contract from Tyson Fury’s team,” Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports.
“We have been told that there is no chance of the contract being signed today and that Tyson Fury is not in the country.
“We are still very much interested in making this fight happen, but at the moment, it is looking highly unlikely.”
The development comes as a tremendous blow to Hearn’s hopes of finally getting the long-awaited fight between Fury and Joshua signed and sealed.
The two sides have been locked in negotiations for several weeks now, but with no contract yet in place, it appears the fight is no closer to happening.
Fury’s team has reportedly been unhappy with the financial offer on the table, and with Hearn now admitting that the contract is unlikely to be signed today, it appears the fight could be in serious jeopardy.
Hearn had previously said that he was “confident” the fight would be signed this week, but with no contract yet in place, and Fury seemingly not in the country, it appears as though the fight is no closer to happening.
The news will come as a tremendous disappointment to boxing fans around the world, who were hoping to see the long-awaited fight finally take place.
With the fight now in serious doubt, it remains to be seen whether it will ever happen.
I think it’s a shame that the fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua isn’t looking likely to happen. I was really looking forward to it and I think it would have been a great fight.
I understand that there are financial issues involved, but I hope they can be resolved so that the fight can take place. It would be an immense disappointment if it didn’t happen.
