The Baltimore Ravens LB Jaylon Ferguson dies at age 26.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson died in a car crash Monday in Maryland, authorities said. The 26-year-old suffered traumatic head injuries and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Ferguson, a fifth-round draft pick in 2017, was a versatile player who played mostly on special teams. He appeared in 16 games and recorded seven tackles as a rookie.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to his family,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. “We are devastated and continue to pray for him and his family.”

The crash happened about 1 a.m. Monday on northbound Interstate 95 near the Route 40 ramp, according to the Maryland State Police.

Police said Ferguson was a passenger in a 2007 Nissan Armada when it left the right shoulder of the highway and struck the median barrier. The driver wasn’t injured.

Ferguson’s teammates expressed their condolences via social media.

“Heartbroken over the passing of my teammate and my friend Jaylon,” Ravens linebacker Matthew Judon tweeted.

“He was a great teammate, prominent leader. RIP bro,” wide receiver Marquise Brown tweeted.

On Monday morning, the Maryland Transportation Authority suspended the northbound lane of the interstate between the Routes 40 and 95 ramps for several hours for the investigation.

The accident happened on the third anniversary of the death of former Ravens player Ed Reed, who died April 12, 2016, in a boating accident off the coast of Florida.

Reed, 42, had a history of heart problems.

Ferguson is the second player to die in a crash this year. Linebacker Karlos Williams, 30, of the Jacksonville Jaguars, died a last month after his truck overturned in South Carolina.

“It’s tough. It’s a sad day for the football family,” Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta said. “He had an incredible opportunity to develop as a player and make plays for us. That’s a tremendous loss for our organization and our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We send our sincere condolences and ask for privacy as they grieve during this difficult time.”
