British heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury has reiterated his desire to fight fellow countryman Anthony Joshua, saying that he has sent a signed contract to Joshua’s camp.
Fury, who holds the WBC and The Ring magazine titles, has been angling for a fight with Joshua, who holds the IBF, WBA and WBO belts, for some time.
The two boxing superstars have been on a collision course since Joshua stopped Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017 to become world heavyweight champion.
Fury has been out of action since then, serving a drugs ban and then battling mental health issues.
But the self-styled ‘Gypsy King’ is now back and has been calling out Joshua for a fight.
“I’ve signed the contract. Where’s your contract? Let’s get the fight made,” Fury said in an Instagram video.
“I’ve been waiting for you for a long time. I’ve been the lineal heavyweight champion of the world since 2015. I’m still the man.”
Fury also took a swipe at Joshua’s recent opponents, saying that he was “beating up bums”.
“You had a good win the other day against a journeyman who was ranked outside the top 50 in the world,” Fury said.
“You’re fighting bums. I’m fighting for the best. Let’s get the fight made.”
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has said that the fight contract has been sent to Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn.
“All Tyson has ever wanted is the fight with Joshua,” Warren said.
“He has made that clear from the off. We have sent the contract over to Eddie Hearn and he is now running around like a headless chicken.”
Hearn has said that he is “100 percent” confident that the fight will happen, but he has also said that Fury needs to prove himself in the ring first.
“The contract has been sent, but I want to see Tyson Fury compete first,” Hearn said.
“I want to see him back in the ring and fighting. Once he has a few fights under his belt, then we can talk about Joshua.”
I think it’s great that Fury is urging Joshua to sign a fight contract. I think the two of them could put on a great show for the fans. I also think it’s smart of Hearn to want to see Fury fight a few more times before signing off on a Joshua fight. I think it would be a great fight and I hope it happens.
